Sports Medicine Physical Therapist

Full Time- 40 hours, Monday - Friday (No weekends)

  • Physical work location: Texas Health Allen 1105 Central Expwy North, Allen TX 75013

  • Work hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday; No weekends

  • Will work 80% to 100% at Allen Location. Potential float to another THR Outpatient Sports Medicine Clinic if low census

  • Sports Medicine Internship Participants and New Grads are welcome to apply

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen is a 73-bed, acute-care hospital serving the northern Collin County area since 2000. Hospital services include women’s care, a Level II neonatal intensive care unit, orthopedics, pediatrics, wound care and sleep medicine.   • Bachelor’s Degree and Completion of Physical Therapy program Required

  • Or Master's Degree Physical Therapy

  • Or Other Doctorate Physical Therapy required

  • Experience in a Sports Medicine Setting with athletes preferred

  • PT – Physical Therapist; Texas Physical Therapy License upon hire required and

  • BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required and other Board-certified Clinical Specialist preferred


  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Problem solving ability

  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Basic leadership skills

Position Responsibilities: THA Sports Medicine Physical Therapist evaluates each patient using age and diagnosis appropriate assessment tests and measurements, including appropriate outcome assessment tool(s).

In addition to the required qualifications, a suc cessful Sports Medicine Physical Therapist:

  • Ensures documentation meets all departmental, regulatory and payer requirements.

  • Ensures all regulatory requirements related to supervision are met.

  • Mentors less experienced physical therapists, PT Residents, PT students and AT Residents as appropriate and assigned.

  • Participates in professional development, research, education, program development, community outreach and marketing as appropriate.

  • Contributes to a culture of excellence that positions THR Sports Medicine as the provider of choice.

  • Performs age-appropriate patient assessment and establishes plan of care

  • Obtains/verifies physician order for therapy and validates for appropriateness

  • Reviews available medical records and obtains pertinent medical history from patient or family

  • Ensures that patient has given informed consent to treatment

  • Evaluates each patient using age and diagnosis appropriate assessment tests and measurements, including appropriate outcome assessment tool(s)

  • Integrates assessment results to identify functional problems and prioritizes care needs with patient and family

  • Sets appropriate, measurable, functional goals with time frames to address the identified problems including patient/family goals and preferences

  • Determines plan for care, and/or appropriate therapeutic interventions to achieve stated goals

  • Initiates therapy discharge planning in collaboration with care team and patient based on prognosis and expected discharge disposition

  • Demonstrates competence in the performance of age-appropriate patient assessment and treatment.

  • Uses therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment

  • Performs treatment procedures that are within the scope of the professional license

  • Performs/delegates technical procedures appropriately and safely

  • Utilizes a variety of treatment techniques to achieve goals, if necessary

  • Determines patient response to treatment and evaluates progress (reassessment)

  • Educates patient and family through instruction, demonstration, and/or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, home programs/self-management and assistive equipment

  • Maintains patient safety throughout treatment

  • Communicates with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues

  • Demonstrates competence in the performance of age-appropriate patient treatment and individualizes care based on age specific needs

  • Motivates non-compliant or unmotivated patients to participate in therapy

  • Manages schedule to ensure that clinic productivity expectations are met

  • Participates in strategies to meet business initiatives and unit/team, program, and department specific goals and targets.
