Texas Health Resources Chief Academic Officer in Arlington, Texas
Texas Health Resources seeks an accomplished, innovative physician leader to serve as its Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for a growing academic enterprise and structure. The CAO will focus on enhancing the current academic programs, development of new academic programs and departments, strengthening education and research partnerships and maximizing the impact of the academic, education and research programs across the Texas Health Resources Health System.
The CAO position is a newly created position recognized as essential to THR’s future strategic development and plans that will enhance an existing strong academic foundation and culture that is characterized by long-standing academic partnerships, excellent program outcomes and highly committed academic and clinical faculty. The CAO will work with other THR leaders and affiliate partners to develop and implement plans for development throughout the health system and North Texas.
The role of the CAO will be a recognized champion for academics, education and research. This leader will be the principal leader with oversight for the infrastructure and systems that support the academic mission including academic departments, health sciences health accredited programs, continuing medical education, and research units and departments. He/She will be a principal liaison and point person for strategic academic relationships, strategic academic development, and representative of THR’s academic programs to state and national peer groups/organizations, including the AAMC and the ACGME. The CAO will serve in a high-level administrative oversight blending academic functions and academic clinical practice oversight.
The successful candidate will be a physician with 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic health system, teaching hospital, or medical school environment. It is preferred that candidates will have overseen graduate and undergraduate medical education programs/departments, academic clinical practice and have fostered an environment that supports the growth and success of clinical, health services, patient-centered outcome research activities. He/She will join a nimble academic organization where piloting innovative ideas in education and research is supported and strategically positioned. The successful candidate will be an M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or D.O. with significant experience in academic medicine, including oversight of medical education programs with a demonstrated track record of championing excellence, leading change and fostering engagement. If not a physician, candidates should be doctorally prepared in a health-related field and bring the requisite leadership experience, including oversight of medical education programs. Candidates should possess a record of progressive leadership in academic medicine, and a national reputation or significant involvement within the academic medicine community. The successful CAO will need to possess exceptional team building skills, communication skills, financial acumen and the potential to lead change in a changing health care and academic environment.
