Requests Processing/Compliance Management Compliance Verification of all requests:
Verifies authorizations for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) compliance.
Processes all release of information in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring quality and accuracy of information according to department policies and regulatory standards utilizing the EMR
Coordinates with the following areas to ensure appropriate/effective release of medical information as needed: Patient Financial Services, Risk Management, Nursing patient care units, physicians and outside facilities.
Reviews and processes requests for disclosure of PHI in compliance with the requirements for use and disclosure of confidential information and/or records per THR Policies and Procedures, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), HITECH, and other federal and state regulatory requirements.
Interacts with entities' Privacy Officers, internal and external attorneys, and requestors.
Prepares invoices and packaging and collect payments for services provided, determining whether prepayment is required.
Analyzes and answers correspondence requests to ensure specified patient information is released properly.
Maintains or exceeds productivity, quality and assures customer service standards.
Utilizes release of information software and EMR to enter all authorized requests of patient information.
Ensures the privacy of the patient by safeguarding and protecting protected health information (PHI) in the performance of duties.
Reviews records for appropriate dates of service, minimum necessary standards, and conducts verification of identity per the content of the request. May have to gather patient information from other sources and systems.
Locates all patient visits in the MPI system accurately based upon written request for medical information.
Fulfills release of information requests within time frames established by THR Policy and Procedures and state and federal regulatory guidelines.
Performs data entry functions, utilizing Release of Information applications to log, monitor, and complete requests for information.
Organizes workload and prioritizes work tasks to meet production goals.
Provided prompt customer service with internal and external customers.
Assists all walk-in customers in obtaining medical records and completion of the HIPAA compliant Authorization to Release Protected Health Information form.
Receives inbound phone inquiries from requestors, ensuring that calls are answered promptly and answering questions regarding status of requests.
Promotes professional teamwork and collaboration across the enterprise.
Escalates customer service concerns to appropriate leadership as needed.

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Req And
Associate's Degree Health Information Management, Business, Healthcare or related field Pref
1 Year Experience in a health care environment with an EMR Req
Licenses and Certifications
RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire Pref
Knowledge of acute care hospital Health Information Management operations including data integrity and HIPAA privacy requirements. Understanding of HIM process in an electronic health record environment. Ability to apply regulatory requirements to facilitate organizational compliance. Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with requestors, i.e., Insurance Companies, Physician Offices, etc. and other stakeholders. Effective organizational skills, demonstrating attention to details and excellent customer service skills. Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Proficient computer skills with knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Proficient in creating patient record requests electronically.
