Lactation Consultant/RN (Registered Nurse) – Part-time

Oh baby! Our Women’s Services department is growing by leaps and bounds. We’re looking for an experienced Lactation Consultant/Registered Nurse to join our tight-knit nursing team today.

Position Highlights

  • Work location: Texas Health Dallas, 8200 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75231

  • Work environment: The Margot Perot Women's Center at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is a MAGNET and Texas 10-Step facility.

  • Level IV Maternal Care Center designation – highest possible designation by the Texas Department of State Health Services

The Maternal/Newborn department includes:

• 63-bed Mother/baby, Couplet care rooms

• Skin to skin care; Breastfeeding education

• The deliveries average over 450 + deliveries per month.

• Best Place to Have a Baby designation

  • Work hours: Part-time, 24 hours weekly, (3) 8-hour shifts, 10:45PM-7:15AM, including some weekends and holidays

  • Salary range: $26.50 - $50.82 per hour (based on relevant RN experience)

  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred

  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

  • BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support certification through the American Heart Association prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterlyrequired

  • IBCLC – International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant required within 12 Months of hire – Strongly prefer upon hire

  • 1 Year Experience as a clinical nurse or completion of an RN residency program required

  • More than 2 years current Lactation Consultant, Maternal/Newborn, couplet care RN experience from an acute care facility strongly preferred

  • In addition to the required qualifications, a successful RN will:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

  • maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients

  • possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism

  • have basic computer skills using Medical management application systems

Position Responsibilities

• Both inpatient and outpatient services – working with both Maternal/Newborn, Special Care Nursery and NICU patients

• Functions as an expert resource on breastfeeding issues for patients, families, community, staff, and physicians

• Serves as a clinical expert for lactation issues based on evidence

• Produces documentation that initiates, follows and revises patient’s plan of care

• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care

• Reviews patient medications for potential complications associated with breastfeeding.

• Assesses outpatients for symptoms of jaundice and breastfeeding problems

• Participates in breast pump rental and retail sales within the Breastfeeding Resource Center
