Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas seeks to hire a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Lead to work full time in their Microbiology Laboratory.
The address is 8200 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75231.
Salary range is Minimum $29.38/hr. to Maximum $43.36/hr. – based on relevant experience
Full Time; 2 nd Shift
Monday – Friday; 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM, weekends as needed
Maintains a working knowledge of continuous improvement and applies concepts and processes to the satisfaction of all accrediting agency requirements for the section:
Assists bench technologist in solving QC and technical problems
Reviews, evaluates and oversees corrective action for monthly QC
Oversees distribution, reviews returned results, completes corrective action as needed
Prepares reports for Clinical Pathologist as needed
Participates on CI and Process Improvement teams
Documents review for selected result and/or maintenance logs, billing programs, etc
Adheres to CAP checklist requirements
Performs yearly review of procedures and makes revisions as needed for compliance
Participates in yearly CAP checklist (interim and 2 year)
Maintains technical knowledge and uses technical skills to participate in daily operation of the section including:
Assumes bench duties as scheduled
Evaluates workload and assists as needed
Research new methods and systems
Assists in technical troubleshooting
Meets continuing education requirements
Prepares and/or assists in bench, daily, weekend and holiday schedules
Makes adjustments for workload, maintenance and unscheduled workflow problems
Complies with safety, infection prevention, continuous improvement and continuing education programs.
Adheres to section, laboratory, hospital and system guidelines, procedures and policies
Models compliance behavior in all regulatory requirements
Provides documentation for annual review
Provides leadership and communication links between the technical staff, the nontechnical staff, the managers and the laboratory director.
Provides problem solving expertise and leadership skills in technical training, information systems and workload problems and issues
Exhibits written and oral communication skills
Participates in student and employee training and orientation as needed
Assists in HR activities as directed by the manager or director
Acts as laboratory supervisor in the absence of section managers as needed.
Payroll activities as needed
Participates in leadership activities and continuing education
Models good work habits to include attendance and productivity
Activates appropriate procedures for downtime and oversees recovery as necessary
Participates and fulfills project assignments, facility changes, new methods or instrument implementation.
Participates in budget preparation
Manages supplies, reagent inventory, costs and section charges
Participates in writing of new procedures and/or installation of new instruments including computer testing and documentation
Participates on interdisciplinary teams
Participates, as directed, in the development and/or maintenance of information system files and applications as required by the laboratory and section/cost center.
New application testing
File maintenance and/or testing in the LIS/HIS
Program development or maintenance
Manages resources within the guideline of the section/cost center budget and productivity indicators.
Provides information for budget preparation
Participates in the evaluation of resource costs
Places supply orders
Monitors use of supplies and personnel resources
Investigates supply and delivery issues
Meets productivity targets
Meets budget targets, i.e. cost/test targets
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree Required
Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science or Chemical, Physical or Biological science
Individual hired as a CLS II/CLS Ld prior to January 3, 2010 will be grandfathered to the MLS Ld position with existing education.
4 years’ experience in a medical laboratory which includes clinical internship required
2 years supervisory experience preferred
3 years plate reading experience highly preferred
MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP) or equivalent (AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS- CA, FL, NY state license, Philippine Board of Technical Technology)
Preferred: MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP)
Strong positive interpersonal skills
Ability to read, write and speak English clearly
Problem solving ability, time management skills
Possess organizational skills to function successfully in a fast-paced work environment
Computer literate in Word, Excel or other data bases
Administrative skills to compile statistics and maintain logs
Ability to multitask
Preferred: Experience with Cerner Millennium LIS
