Work environment: HIMS Coding.
Work hours: Monday-Friday 8 hours per day between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required AND
Associate's Degree Related field preferred
5 Years Coding experience including specialty coding and/or auditing experience. Completion of college level courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, or similar. Advanced level applicable specialty coding or auditing knowledge and experience.
Licenses and Certifications
CPC - Certified Professional Coder Upon Hire Required Or
CCS-P - Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based Upon Hire Required AND
Other Applicable Specialty certification (e.g. CIRCC, CGSC, COSC, CCVTC, CIRCC, etc) Upon Hire Required
Extensive understanding of health insurance and medical policies.
Knowledge of third party billing regulations, professional operations, and third party payer requirements.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.
Must be knowledgeable with Excel and Word
Must processes a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
Must have experience with electronic medical records and associated systems, with the ability to learn internal applications systems. Knowledge of EPIC EMR and PMS preferred.
Accurately abstracts information from the medical records assigns ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS level II codes in compliance with established guidelines. Raises questions regarding any issues that may impact coding quality, accuracy or reimbursement. Provides coding information to departments upon request.
Provides feedback as appropriate to providers, coding managers and senior director. Reviews supporting clinical documentation for facility based professional services and procedures. Performs research as needed and ensures accurate code assignment in support of coding guidelines and third party payer guidelines. Maintains documentation to record/track discrepancies and outcome of research.
Performs charge reconciliation. Compares facility charges posted against procedures coded and scheduled. Identifies any discrepancies. Notifies leadership of any discrepancies and collaborates to rectify the same. Provides end of month feedback to CRD managers and providers as required by CRD policy.
Serves as a subject matter expert in the specialty for which he/she/they are credentialed, providing direction to less experienced staff. May assist with training, auditing, and/or reviewing productivity and quality rates under the leadership of department management.
Performs coding research and special projects as assigned. Provides references to support coding and collaborates with manager to respond to physician questions/concerns regarding coding and billing.
