Texas Health Resources MLS THPG - Microbiology in Euless, Texas

Texas Health Physicians Group is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to work full time in their Microbiology laboratory.

The address is 251 Westpark Way, Euless, TX 76040.

Salary range is Minimum $26.69/hr. to Maximum $39.40/hr. – based on relevant experience

Work Schedule:

  • Full Time; 1 st Shift

  • Daytime hours; variable days to include weekends and holidays

Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs routine testing in: chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microscopy, molecular, bacteriological, biochemical, and microbiological laboratory to assist providers in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, and test analysis.

  • Adhere to laboratory quality control policies, document all quality control activities and corrective action

  • Adhere to all laboratory policies for established acceptability for proficiency testing, corrective actions and resolution of deficiencies.

  • Communicates directly with clinicians regarding critical lab results and patient care.

  • Operates, calibrates, and conducts performance checks on laboratory equipment in accordance with lab policies and vendor requirements.

  • Serves as a resource for medical laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants and other laboratory personnel in troubleshooting problems with analytical and pre-analytical phases of the laboratory testing process

  • Performs basic and advanced instrument troubleshooting in an attempt to resolve instrument issues in a timely manner.

  • Performs all instrument maintenance in accordance with vendor requirements and all laboratory policies.

  • Demonstrates competency in all areas of the laboratory for which patient test reports are issued.

  • Demonstrates competency for results review and documentation/release of results in LIS

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology program or equivalent science required

  • 2 years hospital experience or Medical Laboratory experience preferred

  • 1-year Microbiology experience highly preferred

License and Certification :

  • MLS – Medical Laboratory Scientist Certified by ASCP, AMT, HEW, HHS or NCA required upon hire OR

  • MT (ASCP) – Medical Technologist required upon hire OR

  • MT – Medical Technologist required upon hire

Skills:

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment and techniques of medical technology

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and problem resolution

  • Demonstrates the ability to analyze situations to make operational decision to meet clinical demands

  • Demonstrates customer-focused service skills

  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication adequately to facilitate training of laboratory and non-laboratory staff, to communicate specimen collection, effective handle requirements and provide assistance and support to laboratory and other health care staff

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Basic computer knowledge
