Qualifications/Duties:

Minimum Education Required:

Graduate of an AMA approved/accredited Ultrasound Program

Preferred Associates degree

Minimum Experience Required:

None required new graduates welcomed

Minimum License/Certification:

ARDMS-American Registry for Diagnostic and Medical Sonographers with in 12 months of hire

ARRT-American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with in 12 months of hire

BCLS required upon hire

RVT is preferred.

Work Hours/Schedule: 36 Hrs/ Weekend shift, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 7:00A-7:30P

Minimum Skills Required: Perform quality OB, Abdomen and Vascular Ultrasound exams. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills required.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  1. Uses multidisciplinary, team oriented actions

  2. Assesses and recognizes the patient’s emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive and psychosocial conditions

  3. Prepares room for examination (i.e. suction, oxygen, supplies)

  4. Checks physician orders and exam requisitions

  5. Greets and acknowledges patient, using two forms of ID

  6. Obtain patient history

  7. Appropriately handles patients with IVs, oxygen, chest tubes or other devices

  8. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency drugs and equipment

  9. Uses proper body mechanics when assisting patient

  10. Processes patient information, displays proper phone etiquette and transports patients as needed

  11. Safely administers contrast media and other medication in accordance with medication administration

Imaging Procedures, Quality and Processing

  1. Explains procedures to patient or guardian / family member if applicable prior to exam

  2. Position patient to correct anatomical area of interest

  3. Performs diagnostic and vascular ultrasound procedures including age related criteria and developmental considerations

  4. Selects transducer and scan protocol and parameters appropriately for age related and body habitus factors

  5. Assists radiologist with complex and invasive procedures using aseptic technique

  6. Maintains attention to details

  7. Processes and manipulates images and completes exam worksheet

  8. Analyzes image quality and technique adjustments and has the ability to verbalize trouble shooting techniques

  9. Performs portable ultrasound procedures in various areas of the hospital

  10. Provides after hours call support for radiology ultrasound
